"This little thing?" Story-making and Drama workshop with Duncan Fellows
Speaking Place, Saturday 24th October, Piccolo Family Farm
“A story-making and drama workshop giving voice to small and precious things. Using an item that has real significance to the participant, we will unpack its importance and build the true story around the item.
We will workshop bringing that story to life, first as the written word, then in performance. The workshop will teach participants how to confidently and creatively give an item a story and then convey its meaning using dramatic devices.
We will select 3 or 4 of the participants’ stories and, in small groups, work together to playbuild the written word into performances and staged readings to share live as part of the Sunday Showcase program.
We will also read and record all participants’ stories to create an archive of the work and a memento for all participants to take with them from the workshop.” – Duncan Fellows
$80 per person
Ticket includes Saturday workshop, and welcome coffee on arrival and lunch, admission to the Speaking Place Festival on Sunday 25th October, where participants will showcase their newfound skills for the community.
Speaking Place workshops are for participants aged over 16 years. Participants aged under 18 years will require a guardian’s acknowledgement on waiver form.
Optional extra: Speaking Place dinner on the evening of Saturday 24th October, $60 per person

Duncan Fellows
Duncan Fellows (He/Him) is an actor with over 25 yrs experience across Australian TV, voiceover and theatre. A graduate of Theatre Nepean’s BA Performance, Duncan also has a Graduate Diploma from AFTRS Radio School. TV credits include Deadloch, The Letdown, He Had It Coming, We Interrupt This Broadcast, Heartbreak High,The Messenger, Sunny Nights, A Moody Christmas, Fam Time, Laid, Review With Myles Barlow, At Home With Julia, Life Support, Comedy Inc, All Saints and Home and Away. Duncan spent five years hosting BBC Australia’s Cbeebies Channel, and has recently clocked up 15 yrs as a voiceover for the 7 network.

About Speaking Place
On the inspiring grounds of Piccolo Family Farm, a series of arts workshops and seminars are facilitated by skilled professional makers and artists across various unique creative disciplines. The workshops will centre around the concept of Place, and how makers and creatives evoke and communicate Place through their craft. Throughout the day, facilitators and participants have the opportunity to gather with the other participants, fostering creative networking and the exchange of ideas and thoughtful conversation.
Speaking Place was founded to provide access to world-class artistic skills for regional audiences. It also has a strong focus on ongoing impact, encouraging further creative collaboration and artistic exploration beyond the Speaking Place weekend.
‘Place’ is a generous topic of exploration. It gives artists and audiences an infinite world of discussion and discovery of how their craft ‘speaks place’ and opens them up to a journey of creative understanding and collaboration.
